THE GOVERNOR AND MINISTERS ON COLONIAL DEFENCES.
[By Telegraph.] Wellington, December 5. In reply to Mr Fitzroy, who asked as to the nature of the important services on which the Hinemoa would be engaged in January, and which Ministers stated was a reason why Sir William Jervois could not have her, Sir George Grey said Ministers were the proper judges of the importance of the services in which ilio Hinemoa would be engaged, which would prevent her being placed at the disposal of Sir William Jervois. There was no understanding that she should bo placed at the service of Sir W. Jervois, but if it was desired that the Government should furnish a log of the Hinemoa to show what services she hod been employed in, it would bo furnished.
