Two formal protests against the Education Bill were yesterday handed to the Speaker of the Legislative Council to bo sent to the G-overnor, through whom they are to be transmitted to the Home authorities. The following members protest against the Bill, because it fails to provide for any recognition of the Christian religion or even of the Supreme Being: —The Hons. Colonel Kenny, Messrs Richmond, and Peter Miller. The other protest is signed by Hon. J. Hall, and Hon. Dr Menzies, and objects to the Bill for the same reasons as the others, but they give as an additional ground that the law is not only absolutely wrong, but is opposed to the general wishes of the people of New Zealand.
