Friday, November 16. The House met at 2.30. Leave of absence for ten days was granted to Mr Reader Wood, Dr. Wallis, and Mr Carrington. In reply to Mr Kelly, Sir G. Grey said that the Government agreed with the recommendation of the Petitions Committee on the petition of the chairman of the Titanic Steel and Iron Company. New Bills Introduced —Lyttelton Harbor Works Compensation Bill (Larnach), Westland and Nelson Coalfields Administration Bill (Macandrew), Cemeteries Management Bill (Sheehan), Lyttelton and Heathcote Recreation Ground Bill (Fisher). Mr Sutton moved for leave to introduce a Bill to amend the Napier Swamp Nuisance Act, 1875. The Speaker ruled that a private Act could not be amended by a public Bill. Mr Sheehan said if it were competent for the Government to do so, they would be glad to introduce this measure as a public one, as the matter was a very important one. Mr Sutton urged the importance of the Bill, which was to extend the period of the | operation of the former Act. j The Speaker advised the hon. member to I confer with the Government. The Bill could f not be introduced in its present form. I The Shipping and Seamen Bill was further j considered in committee. | ADJOURNMENT. J Mr Sheehan moved the adjournment of ! the House at 5.30 until Monday. The Public I Works and Financial statements had to be prepared, and it was abolutely necessary that Ministers should have some time to consult together. The House had been sitting so continuously that really the Cabinet had nob had time to meet. The motion was agreed to.
