Tile Eangoon section is also interrupted. The steamship Edinburgh is repairing the Penang and Singapore section. November 11. Consequent, on the breaking of the Java cable, arrangements havo been made that a steamer from Batavia shall be at Port Darwin eight d«ys after the break to cany messages to and from Banjowangie.
AUSTRALIAN. The Suez Mail at Glenelg. Sydney, November 10. The steamer Tanjore arrived at Glenelg yesterday with the Suez mail. The passengers for New Zealand are —Rev. Mr Elton, wife, and children, Mr Lightband, Mr Halliday. INTERPROVINCIAL. Successful Whaling. Wreck of the Schooner Waihopai. Maori Outrage. Auckland, November 10. The whaling ship James Arnold has arrived at the Bay of Islands with 650 barrels right whale oil. She reports the California, with 500 barrels of sperm since leaving Mongonui. Grahamstown, November 11. An old Maori named Te Pakeroa was arreel ed last night as a lunatic. This is the man who accused himself of bewitching Te Moanaina and causing his death. Meetings have been held concerning his conduct, andat one of these held at Ohinemuri on Wednesday lust, it; was determined to kill him. A party was told off to do this, and three men came down this morning and tired about ten shots into Pakeroa's wnare, and he only esoped being murdered by arrest last night. The matter has been reported to the Government. Wellington, November 11. The schooner Waihopai, from Pelorus Sound, with a cargo of timber, missed stays yesterday while beating in through tho heads. She drifted on to the rocks and has become a total wreck. Tim pilot's crew put off as soon as possible to render assistance, and secured the sails and a good deal of gear, but the men's clothing and everything in the cabin was lost, having been washed through a large hole bumped in her stern. It was blowing a gale at the time, and the vessel drifted high on to the rocks. The Waihopai belongs to Captain Cross, harbor-master, Nelson, and is believed not to be insured. Signor Ma jeroni drew a very crowded house last night in the " Old Corporal," and the applause was loud and frequent. Nelson, November 10. The Agricultural Show yesterday was a great success. Over 3000 visitors were present. The weather was beautiful, and all tho arrangements were excellent. [from the correspondent ov the press.] Timaru, November 10. The Timaru Boating Club opened tho season this afternoon by a procession. The proceedings passed off with great eclat. A large number of people were present, including many ladies.
