PARLIAMENTARY.
Last Night’s Proceedings. The No-confidence Division. Wellington, November 6. After the Governor's message was read, Sir G-. Grey asked that the House should adjourn, to allow Ministers time for consideration. Mr McLean said he had called for a division on the privilege question because he thought it a paltry one. The Speaker ruled such reference out of order. Mr McLean thought the question would never have been heard of had not Ministers wanted to gain time. The Speaker again ruled the remarks out of order. Mr McLean held the adjournment was only asked for to enable Ministers to escape a division on the no-confidence motion and resign on the .question of privilege. They should face it like pxep, and not run away. The House should not adjourp till the want of confidence division took place. Mr Moorhouse opposed the adjournment. Mr Fox thought it necessary to oppose the adjournment to show that the opposition were not responsible for the great waste of time going on ; but this feeing understood, the position of the difficulty in which Ministers were should be recognised, apgl the adjournment they asked for be given. Mr Wakefield contended that Major Atkinson yras the person responsible for the waste, by having .brought
down a most unsconstitutional and improper motion. He characterised Mr Fox’s conduct as a dodge to throw on the Government tin odium of delay. The motion for an adjourn ment was agreed to and the House rose at 8.5 p.m. 2.30 p.m. The division on the No-Confidence motion was forced soon after the House met. Opposition apparently not ready. Ayes ... ... 39 Noes ... ... 39 The Speaker gave his casting vote with the Noes. Humoured Resignation of the Ministry. [from our own correspondent.] Wellington, November 6. It is rumoured that Sir G. Grey intends resigning to-day on the breach of privilege question.
