CANTERBURY AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee was held yesterday at 2.30 p.m.; Mr W. .Norman, vicepresident, in the chair. There was a good attendance. Mr Duncan said the sub-committee appointed to consider the value of points had determined that it would be as well —as the show was so near—to let the matter stand until the first general meeting to be held afterwards, when it could be discussed at length, as it was more than likely that one of the rules would have to be altered. After some remarks it was decided to leave the system of counting points as at present, the question to be brought up at an'early meeting after the show. A letter was read from Mr Alport, saying that the purchaser of the catalogues last year had complained that a sufficient number had not been provided. He could have sold some hundreds more if he had had them. On the motion of Mr Ford, it was resolved —. v That 2000 catalogues be printed this year, lio be sold by auction." Some conversation took place as to the ad«risableness of having some catalogues printed with the names left blank. One member etated that last year it was known that the judges had been allowed in one or two instances at last show to see the catalogues, and Mr Holly said that in one class the steward have been the principal judge. A general opinion was expressed that this steward could not have known his duty, and such • mduct was very reprehensible. A list of instructions to marshals was read, after which Mr Duncan moved the following additional (C'lamae —" That the marshal in any class must .on no account show his catalogue to the judges, or give them any information as to the exhibits or the names of the owners." Mr Ford seconded the motion, which was agreed to. In reply to a question from Mr Ford, who had received a letter asking for the information, it was stated that the entries for the *' Farmers of Canterbury prize" (two-year-old bull and two-year-old heifer) would have to be made in accordance with the rules of the association No special entry fee would have to be paid for this prize beyond the ordinary entry ±0? the association prizes. On the of Mr Duncan, it was decided to adjourn until next meeting Mr Wilkin's notice of motion as to the advisablemess of commencing a " Stud Book." {! Gilmour, Ho£ly, and Boag were ■Appointed a sub-committee to select the ground for the trial of implements. The vice-president, and Messrs Henderson, Ferguson, Bruce, Holly, and Anderson, jun., were elected the ground committee. It was decided that a ring should be formed for the pedigree cattle to be paraded round and judged in, and that the yard committee should arrange for the sale of booths, &c, on the day of the show. On the motion of Mr Duncan, the ground committee were authorised to have entrance -.tickets to the ground printed for the convenience of visitors to the exhibition. These itidseta to be sold throughout the city. On the motion of Mr J. E. Hill, it was in reply to an application, that the JToresters be allowed to have the use of the association grounds on Boxing Day on payment of £lO 10s, with a proviso that any damage done shall be made good. Messrs A. Duncan and R. Wilkin were appointed a sub-committee to make arrangements for the accommodation of the judges.
