THE NEW CANTERBURY MASONIC HALL.

The new hall recently erected by the Canterbury Lodge, 1058 E.C., was consecrated yesterday afternoon in due form, according to ancient custom. There was a large attendance of the craft, including members of sister lodges, and also representing the other constitutions. In the evening the ball took place, when there was a numerous assemblage. The hall was very prettily decorated; indeed the decoration committee deserve every credit for the taste displayed by them. The various arched panels of "the walls were filled in with masonic devices of various kinds in evergreens and flowers, the arches themselves being wreathed with festoons of greenery, having a very good effect. The many colored curtains with which the room is hung added greatly to the general effect. When the room was filled, as it was last evening, with the tasteful toilettes of the ladies, it was one of the prettiest sights we have seen for many a day. The stewards and committee did all they could to promote the comfort of their guests, and succeeded admirably. The lighting ard ventilation of the hall are perfect, and th»ugh comfortably filled last evening the room was quite cool. The supper arrangements were excellently carried out by Messrs Cookson and Oram Sheppard. It was laid in the old hall, and a covered passage was erected leading from the new hall. Dancing commenced shortly after nine o'clock to the strains ol Mr Schwartz's band, and was kept up with great spirit until an early hour. Altogether the Masonic ball of 1877 will long be remembered as one of the pleasantest gatherings yet held here.
