Last Eight’s Proceedings. Wellington, October 19. In committee of the whole, after further discussion, Mr Wood’s motion to reserve land to the present value of £40,000 for the construction of a branch railway from Edcndale to Fortrose, and to have the survey made during the recess, was carried. An addressto the Governor for £SOOO to pay the legal expenses of Stephen Read and others in defending gold mining rights, as recommended by the Goldfields Committee, was also agreed to. The Local Option Bill was postponed to Wednesday next, when Mr Fox stated he would take the decision of the committee on Mr Ballance’s compensation clause, which if carried he would abandon the Hill. The following Hills were read a third time and passed : —Tim Wanganui Harbor Endowment and Borrowing Bill, and the Canterbury Rivers Act Amendment Bill. The StrathTaieri and Clyde Railway Bill was read a second time, and the Christchurch City Reserves Bill was reported with amendments. The House adjourned at 12.40 a.m.
