FRESH TAXATION.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sin, —Having seen in your columns two letters from correspondents calling attention to the action of the Drainage Board in getting an Act passed through the Assembly giving them additional power of rating, I wish most respectfully to ask what are the leaders of the Ratepayers’ Reform Association about (Messrs W. Williams, Treadwell, Cass, and Co.) that they do not take up the matter ? Surely, if ever their services were required in aid of an over-taxed and over-governed people, it is at the present moment. That association was started with a great flourish of trumpets and sound of big guns—what has it done ? Here i& an opportunity for the leaders to distinguish themselves and render good service to their fellow-citizens. It appears the City Council at their last meeting passed a resolution asking the Assembly to reconstitute them the Local Board of Health, and at the same time protested against the Drainage Board having additional rating powers inside the city of Christchurch. I ask are the ratepayers going to second their representatives in this matter, or are they so indifferent as to let things take their course until it is too late to interfere. If some action is not taken, and that quickly, we shall find that the Drainage Board will be again dipping their hands into our breeches pockets more deeply than wo can afford. Can anybody answer the question what are they doing with our money, and how much bus already gone to pay men salaries. Yours, Ac., ENQUIRER.
