PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.
THE NEW OPPOSITION. [from the correspondent of the press.] Wellington, October 17, 8 p.m. Mr Fox’s resolution on Mr Lusk’s breach of privilege occupied nearly all the afternoon and is on now. Mr Macfarlane has withdrawn his amendment, that Mr Lusk’s seat be declared vacant. The general feeling is against Mr Lusk. Some surprise has been expressed at the Opposition allowing their Bills to be discharged last night without division, but they do not wish to press a division until the party which Major Atkinson is in course of forming is completed. I understand Major Atkinson will lead the party, and that Mr Stafford has no intention of taking oillce. The difficulty in the Upper House is not yet surmounted. The Hon. Mr Buckley refused to join, and the Hon. Henry Russell is not well enough. There was a little scene over the adjournment to-day, but it was carried, and so business there is quite at a standstill. Mr Roes is now speaking on Mr Lusk’s case. A number of local bills are on the paper for to-night, this being a, private members’ day.
