The Napier Stock Show. The Kumara Murder. Napier, October 11. On the second day of the Hastings Show the weather was fine, and the show was a great success. There were over 2000 people on the ground. £l3O was taken at the gate to-day. The winners of the champion cups were: — Thoroughbreds—Watt and Farmer’s Papapa. Mares -A. Buckland. Draught Stock—Van’s (late Canning’s) Dugdale. Mares —Bonnet’s three-year-old, by Little Joe. Bulls—H. E. Russell’s King Henry 111., two years old. Cows—Colin and McHardy’s Duchess of Edinburgh. Long Wools—Rams: Dolbeli’s imported Dudding Lincoln. Ewes Coleman and McHardy, with a provincial-bred animal. Kumara, October 11. The case for the prosecution of Ryan was concluded to-day. The evidence unimportant, except that of Dr Acheson, of Greymouth, who proved the skeleton to be that of a man. The prisoner, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court, Hokitika, in March, 1878. Dunedin, October 11. In the Supreme Court to-day Mr George Cook complained of a remark made by the editor of the “New Zealand Jurist ” with reference to the case of Chalmers v. Clarke. Judge Williams pointed out that the Court could not interfere in the matter.
