GERALDINE RACES. [By Telegraph.] [from our special correspondent.] First Day, October 11. The races to-day were a great success. The weather was beautiful and the attendance large. maiden plate. Mr H. Jones’s Fishhook ... ... ... 1 Mr G. H. Thompson’s Bezique ... ... 2 Betting—3 to 2 agst Mufti, 3 to 1 agst anything else. Fishhook went away witli the lead, followed by Mufti, with Bezique third. Bezique, after the quarter-mile post was passed, took up the running. Fishhook again showed to the front passing the stand, with Mufti second, Bezique having fallen back. A quarter of a mile past the stand Mufti took the lead, and ran for some distance with Fishhook on His quarter, the others being beaten off. Mufti passed the post four lengths ahead of Fishhook, hard held; Bezique a bad third. Afterwards the stewards disqualified Mufti for going on the wrong side of the flag, and Fishhook was declared the winner. handicap hurdle race. Mr H. Lunn’s Grey Momus, lOst 101 b ... 1 Mr Thompson’s Ivanhoe, list 71b ... 2 Turk (9st 71b) also ran. Lone Hand and Phantom were scratched. Betting—3 to lon Momus. There was a good start, and all passed the Stand together. Ivanhoe and Turk baulked at the first hurdle, thus conceding a good lead to Grey Momus. Ivanhoe soon got over, and got on terms with Momus, but again baulked at the second hurdle, repeating Ids trick at the third, between which and the fourth hurdle he improved his position, and from thence to the distance he and Momus ran very evenly. Here Momus drew away, and eventually won by three lengths. Ivanhoe was splendidly ridden throughout by Joyce, and had he not baulked would have won. publicans’ purse, Mr Ray’s Danebury, 9-t 71b 1 Mr Lunn’s Phantom, 6st ... ... ... 2 Mufti was scratched. Danebury jumped off with the lead and was never caught, although Phantom was ridden right out. pony race. Mr Dean’s Mazeppa 1 Mr McKay’s Mazeppa 2 Mr Buffer's Gaslight ... 3 Mr Dean’s Mazeppa refused to start, and was behind all the way, McKay’s horse passmg the post first and Buffer’s second. Through McKay’sand Buffer’s horses being disqualified Dean’s Mazeppa was declared to win. SELLING RACE. Mr Jones’s Fishhook ... ... ... 1 Mr Thompson’s Bezique ... ... ... 2 Mr Saundcr’s Pullawuy 3 Annie Laurie was scratched. Pullaway made the running after a good start, with Fishhook second and the Bat third. Fishhook then went to the front and had it all his own way to the finish; Bezique coming in three lengths behind.
