CHRIST’S COLLEGE SPORTS.

The following events were decided after we went to press yesterday:— 200 Yards Hurdle Race —Over eight flights of hurdles, 3ft Gin high ; open to whole school; to be run in heats. First Heat. R. Hamilton 1 W. Coates 2 Time—2Bisecs. Second Heat. B, Moorhouse 1 A. Chapman... ... ... ... 2 Time—2 81-secs. Fluid Heat. B. Moorhouse 1 R. Hamilton 2 A. Chapman > f W. Coates i f This spin was capitally contested, Moorhouse and Hamilton rising the hurdles simultaneous! all the way. At the last Jump Moorhouse rose a shade sooner, and, landing on his left foot, had the first show for the spurt home. H amilton was close at his heels, a id, by a well judged spring throw himself on the tape, but a fraction of time too late. Onapman and Coates ran in together, but a very short distance behind. Time 2oYßec. The time for this heat last year was 27sec. Lade s’ Challenge Cup—One mile; open to boys under 10 hleven entries; eight starters. E. H. Stafford 1 R. Mackenzie 2 R. Higgins 3 Higgins, Mackenzie, and Stafford soon singled themselves out from the others, running in the order named until the last lap, when Stafford came up, passed Mackenzie, and challenged and passed the leader. A very fine struggle between these throe ensued from the turn into the straight for home. Mackenzie passed Higgins and spurted with Stafford, who had, however, too strong a lead to overtake him. Had ho come away sooner the probability is that he would have won. Time—smin. 21-Jsec. The time last year was smin, 2Ssoc. Walking Race—One mile ; open to whole school. Fifteen entries ; nine starters, H J. Beswick 1 F. Archer 2 G. A. Smith 3; The contest lay between above three and R. H. Harman, who certainly walked the best of tho lot, in correct style with expanded cheat, and, true heel and toe. Beswick and Archer had most pace, but when spurting koine, walked nearly double with the upper

portion of their body a long way in front of their toes. Smith slackened off, when finishing the last lap, and walked leisurely in. Time —Bmin. 35*sec. Consolation Bace—loo yards; boys under fourteen; eighteen starters, A. Wehh 1 G. Palmer 2 O. Strode ... ... ... ... 3 Time—l4isec. Consolation Kaco—loo yards ; open to the whole school; eicht starters. F. Williams 1 G. Borton 2 Time—ll^sec. Old O liege Boys’ Bace—2oo yards handicap; Thirty entries. A. Templar (-3 yards) 1 H. McOardell (9 yards) ... ... 2 The following also started —A. R. F. Johnston and A. Ollivier, scratch ; L. Hawkes, 5 yards ; J. Millbon, 9 yards, W. Woodman, 7 yards : W. Newton, 10 yards ; E. Peter, 11 ya’ ds ; D. Potts, 12 yards ; J. Field, 13 yards ; F. Whitcombe, 13 yards ; A. Mathias, 14 yards ; G. Hanmer, 14 yards ; W. Bean, 16 yards ; W. Potts, 16 yards ; L. Mathias, 17 yards ; H. Tosswill, 17 yards; A. Pearson, 18 yards, C. Dobson, 18 yards; W. Barker, 18 yards. Mr Condell got the “boys” away to a splendid start, but those at scratch were evidently at a disadvantage, through having (o work slightly out of their line, the “starts” very naturally forging gradually towards the centre of the track. Nearing home Templar, MeCardell, and 1\ Potts were seen opening out from (be ruck, and about twenty yards from the tape the latter fell, completely stopping Johnston who was close behind him. The struggle from here was pretty stiff, and Templar spurted hard to reach the tape, which he did a little over a yard in front of MeCardell, the others coming in immediately behind with a general rush. Time— The time last year was said to have been between 21 and 23secs. This concluded the programme, and an adjournment was made to the schoolroom, where the prizes were presented to the winners by Mrs E. A. Worthy.
