PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.
[feom the coeeespondent of the feess.] Wellington, October 10. There is not much fresh stirring whilst the Ministry is in course of formation. A meeting was held to-day, and another is to be held to-morrow, but nothing has transpired as yet. There are rumours of a split having already taken place in the party, but they want confirmation. As the Houses cannot agree on the Disqualification Amendment Bill, Mr Peacock has been freshly called to the Legislative Council. The Hon. Mr Hall has introduced in the Council a stringent Bill to put down lotteries of all kinds. The special correspondent of the “Post” telegraphs from Auckland as follows : —“ Yery little interest is exhibited over the announcement of the defeat of the Ministry. The general opinion appears to be that the Opposition will find dilliculty in forming a Ministry commanding a majority of the House, and unless Sir George Grey, either personally or by nomination, indicates who are the Auckland representatives in the new Cabinet, a largo majority of the Auckland party will bo compelled by the strong feeling of their constituents to pass once more into opposition. The way he was hoisted out of the leadership, after doing all the up-hill work, is not regarded favourably.” [pee peess agency.] Wellington, October 10. The Select Committee of the Upper House reports in reference to the charges made by J. H. Wilson against Judge Eogan that there were no grounds for attributing corrupt or improper motives to him in his judicial decision. Wilson himself says, “ throughout the whole of the unhappy case” he never intended to attribute such motives to Judge Eogan. The question now is whether Judge Eogan acted legally or illegally in respect to certain deeds, and the committee have declined to deal with the points of law.
