CHRIST’S COLLEGE SPORTS.
Judge, Mr C. C. Corfe; starters, Messrs E. A. Worthy and T, D. Condell; committee, Messrs R. Hamilton, Gr. Borton, H. Brown, B. Moorhouse, F. Q-. Westeura, H. Williams. The annual sports in connection with Christ’s College commenced this morning. The programme comprised twenty-two events —ini lading the Old College Boys’ handicap—each of which were well filled. The very lovely weatner induced a large attendance, many ladies being present among the visitors, all of whom seemed to take a lively interest in the proceedings. The various events were well contested. The following are those disposed of up to the time of our going to press ; Putting 161 b weight—Open to whole school; five entries. B, Moorhouse, 30ft. Sin 1 H. Brown, 23ft llin 2 Throwing the Cricket Ball —Open to the whole school; three entries. R. Hamilton, 95yds. 2ft. Tin. ... X B. Moorhouse, 85yds. 2ft. 4in. ... 2 Long Jump—Open to boys under 14; thirteen entries. A. Morgan, 14ft Gin. 1 0. Strode, 13ft. llin 2 Long Jump—Open to whole school; five entries. if'. G. Westenra, 21ft. Sin 1 E. Hamilton. 18ft. sin 2 Mile Race- Open to boys under 14 ; six entries. J Studholmo 1 H. tv. Mathias 2 Studholme led from start, Neville following him closely, with Mathias lying third. About 100 yard from home, in final lap, Mathias increased the pace, and passing Neville, came up with the leader. Studholme here put it on, and a very good struggle took place to the post, Studholme spurting finely at finish, winning by about 8 yards. Time—smin. 46sec. Mile Race—Open to whole school; six entries. J. Brown ... 1 J. Boys 2 Boys led all the laps, with B/Own in attendance. About 120 yards from home Brown spurted and came up, which was immediatelv answered by Boys. A good struggle ensued, Brown landing the winner by about a yard. Tirae—smin. 15iscc.

Hamilton 1 + B. } 4ft - 7 * in * - f One Hundred Yards Race —Open to boys under fourteen; thirteen entries. A, Morgan ... ... ... ... 1 J. McLean ... 2 A. Webb 3 Well-contested race, won by two yards. Time—l2£sec. One Hundred Yards Race—Open to the whole school; eight entries. G. Westenra 1 H. Brown 2 Won by about ten yards. Time—lOJsec. One Hundred Yards Race —Open to boys under twelve; five entries. E. Webb 1 J. Studholme 2 Won by half a yard. Time— HaJf-a-mile Handicap—Open to whole school; twenty-three entries. P. G. Westenra (scratch) 1 J. Boys (25yds) 2 F. Williams (55yds) ... ... ... 3 Won easily. The winner running with good judgment, gradually drew up the last lap, and collared the leader when turning into the straight for home, winning by about twenty yards. Williams, who had run well, was pumped out with his struggle with Westenra, and was passed by Boys a few vards from home. Time—2min. 15|sec. Quarter Mile Race, for cup presented by Mr Geo. Gould—open to boys under fifteen; twenty-five entries, fourteen starters. A. Morgan 1 W. Webb 2 H. Warren ... 3 An excellently contested race, Morgan and Webb sticking together until the turn into the straight, when the former, who had most go in him, drew away and won by about nine yards. Webb, who was about done up, landed about a yard in front of Warren. Time—lmin. 7|sec. Maif-mile Race—Open to boys under twelve; six entries. J. Studholme 1 E. Webb 2 Won by 40yds. Time—2min. 47Jsecs. Quarter-mile Race —Open to whole school; five entries; three starters. F. G. Westenra 1 H. Brown 2 Won easily. Time—sß|secs. Quarter-mile Race —Open to boys under 14 ; seventeen entries ; fourteen starters. A. Morgan 1 H. Smith ... ... ... ... 2 W. Studholme 3 Won from the start. Time —Imin.
