PARLIAMENTARY.
Last Night's Proceedings. Wellington, October 6. The House was in committee on the Land Bill during the whole evening sitting. A considerable number of amendments were proposed in clause 18 to alter the mode of appointing members of the Waste Land Boards, but none of them were passed. The maximum area to be held by a deferred payment selector was fixed at 610 acres. In sub-section 4of clause 65, Mr Eeynolds moved an amendment, to allow selectors to reside by substitute. This was negatived by 36 to 8. In sub-section 5 Dr Hodgkinson desired to make the proportion of land to be cultivated during the first year one-tenth instead of one-twentieth. This was negatived by 27 to 6. Clause 64 was passed and progress was reported, The House rose at 2.30,
In the Legislative Council last night, on Hon. Mr Peacock entering the Chamber he was challenged as a stranger and withdrew. This was in consequence of disqualification.
