ROAD BOARDS.

AVON.

Present, the chairman and all the members. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The clerk reported receipts since last meeting—Rates, 1876, £3l 6s 5d ; rates, 1877, £202 16s lOd ; credit balance at Bank, £2544 4s 3d; liabilities for contracts, £1570 3s Bd. The surveyor’s report was read and considered. The surveyor was instructed to call for tenders for shingling Abberly, Hill’s, Winter’s, and Abbott’s roads. With regard to road leading to Mr Reid’s, it was decided that if he formed the road the Board would shingle it. Mr James Donald saw the Board, and presented a petition asking to have the road between sections 304 and 307 formed. The clerk was instructed to inform Mr Donald that the Board could not entertain the proposition. The clerk was instructed to write to the Drainage Board requesting an answer to the letter regarding the filling in the ditches on the sides of St. Albans lane. With respect to lamp at Stanmore Bridge, the chairman was requested to confer with the Heathcote Board upon the subject. Mr Minchin interviewed the Board respecting ditch running along the front of his property, and asked them to have the same filled in. The surveyor was instructed to fill in the ditch. Instructions were also given to have fences erected at the culvert on Kelly’s road ; also on the side of the water hole on Preston’s road. Prom Rev. H. (Hasson, requesting that the road in front of the church at New Brighton might be clayed. The surveyor was directed to report upon the same at next meeting. A letter was received from the Riccarton Road Board asking the Avon Board to build larger bridge over drain in Gravel Reserve. The surveyor was directed to have the matter attended to. A letter was received from Mr Preece concerning stagnant water. The surveyor was directed to inspect and report upon same next meeting. A letter was received from the Local Board of Health respecting stagnant water in Andover street. The surveyor was directed to inspect and report upon the accumulation of water on road side near Borgfeld’s. Instructions were also giyen to have the road from Burns’s corner towards Canal Reserve improved. The clerk was instructed to call for tenders for valuing the district. Accounts to the amount of £741 lls lid w-ere passed and ordered to be paid.
