MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, September 27. (Before GK L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. Joseph Rountree and John Blyth were each fined 10s. Two inebriates, who appeared for the first time, were fined 5s each.

Larceny of a Swag.— James Allen, charged with stealing a swag belonging to A. Kedge from the bar of the White Hart Hotel, was remanded until the following day for the production of evidence. Obstructing Thoroughfare. John G-air was charged, on summons, with having obstructed Gloucester street on Saturday evening last, and causing a crowd to collect. Mr Thomas appeared for the defendant. From the evidence it appeared that defendant, with two or three others, were talking together late on that evening, when Constable Brooks told him it was time to go home, and placed his hand on his shoulder in a friendly manner. Defendant then used some strong expressions, the result being that a crowd collected, which obstructed the thoroughfare. His Worship told defendant that he had acted inadvisedly in not accepting the constable’s expression in the friendly manner intended, but, as lie had lost time in attending the Court on two occasions, the case would bo dismissed.

LYTTELTON. Thursday, September 27. (Before J. T. Bouse, Esq., J. 8.) Drunkenness.—Jessie Andrews, alias Ann Jordan, arrested by Constable Sullen, was accused of this offence and of indecent conduct. After hearing evidence, and the statement of the police regarding previous convictions, the Bench sentenced accused to fourteen days’ imprisonment with hard labour.
