[PER. PRESS AGENCY.] Suspicious Death at Auckland. Dismissal of the Dunedin Forgery Case Auckland, September 11. Fanny Moore, living with a man named Pote, died in Cook street. Both of her eyes were blackened. The neighbours testified to ill-treatment. Dr. Bien, who had been attending her for a few days, gave a certificate of death from natural causes, but the police called for an inquest, and the jury returned a verdict of “ Manslaughter” against Pote, who is said to have left for Taranaki, Dunedin, September 11. The charge of forgery against Rossbotham was dismissed to-day, the Bench being of opinion that there was not sufficient evidence to commit the accused. The case against Proudfoot was further adjourned till Friday. [PROM THE CORRESPONDENT OP THE PRESS.] Timaru, September 11. At the District Court to-day J. A. Craig, for obtaining money by false pretences, was sentenced to nine months. J. Cockroft, for fraudulent bankruptcy, was found guilty. Sentence was deferred
