MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, August 30. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq. R.M.)“ Drunk and Disorderly. —Chas. _ Boyle, charged with being drunk and resisting the police, was fined 20s and cab hire. John Hayes, for being drunk and committing an act of exposure, was fined 40s. Patrick Broderick for drunkenness and resisting the police was lined 20s and cab hire. Margaret Clark for being drunk was fined 20s. A first offender, who had been admitted to bail, and did not answer to his name when first called, was fined 20s. Wife Dersertion. —A case was called against Henry Jordan for deserting his wife Sarah Jordon. Defendant did not appear, and his Worship ordered warrant to be issued for his arrest. LYTTELTON. Thursday, August 30. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. —An inebriate who appeared for the first time was fined 10s. Vagrancy. —James Ross, an old man who has frequently appeared before the Court, and who through age and infirmity is incapable of taking care of himself, was brought up charged with above offence. Constable Bullen stated that last evening he was informed that the accused was lying in an old house and likely to die if not taken care of, so he locked him up on above charge. The Bench dismissed the case stating accused would be taken care of by the Charitable Aid Department. Civil Case. —Reed v Standidge, claim £4O 10s. Mr Nalder for plaintiff. Mr Thomas for defendant; judgment by consent for defendant, costs of Court 2b's.
