IN TERPROY mOIAL. "[PER press agency.] Wellington, August 21. At a meeting of Roman Catholics last night, held to consider the Education Bill, Bishop Redwood occupied the chair. In criticising the Bill, ho said education without religion was a mockery, a sham, and a plague. Resolutions were earned, condemning the principles of the Bill, its invasion of parental rights, and the exceptional pressure upon the Catholics, and its unfairness to the Catholic schoolmasters. It was also resolved, 11 the Bill passed, to agitate, in order to bring about its modification or repeal. Ills Lordship was requested to forward the resolutions to the Government, A large quantity of land situated outside the town belt, and separated from the t wn by a high ridge, was sold at auction yesterday as a new township, and realised an average of £IOO per acre. Philip B. Boulton, Chief Inspector of Sheep, Canterbury, has been gazetted Registrar of Brands. Dunedin, August 21. The inquest on the lire which occurred at Weir and Samson’s on Sunday morning terminated last evening. The jury returned a verdict of “ Incendiarism,” against some person or persons unknown.
