THE DRAINAGE BOARD.
To the Editor of the Globe. Sib,—ln the “Times” sub-leader of today reference is made to probable supposed amendments to the Drainage Act, Surely the Board cannot intend to do anything of the kind without consulting the ratepayers, seeing that they do not possess the confidence of any portion of their district. It is well known among those wdio are able to give an opinion that the Board have exceeded the powers given them under their Act. They have no power therein to undertake drainage works —only the works necessary to carry away storm and surface water. The rate of 5d in the & they have levied for drainage is therefore bad. The ratepayers should combine for the purpose of testing the question, and this can easily be done through the Ratepayers Association. It will cost but little if a sufficient number combine, and will ultimately lead to compelling this unique Board to resign the powers entrusted to them. Yours, &c., ALERT.
