PARLIAMENTARY.
Last Night’s Proceedings. Wellington, August 2. The House resumed, at 7.30, when Mr Eces gave notices of motion to the effect that the Government should be condemned for using their influence and means in defending the “ Waka Maori” libel action, and that, after the expression of the opinion of the House last session, the conduct of the Government in still carrying on the business was highly reprehensible ; also, a notice to move for a committee to inquire into the circumstances under which the flank overdraft at the Thames was paid by the Government. The debate on the Charitable Institutions Eill was resumed and continued until midnight, when Mr Enid replied, answering the principal arguments against the Bill, but alleging the lateness of the iicur for not going further into the matter. A division was taken, and the result was that the second reading of the Bill was carried by 42 against 11. The money clause will be considered tomorrow, and the Bill will be committeed on Thursday. The House adjourned at 12.35.
