MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, July 23. (Before G-. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. — W. Warner, for being drunk and disorderly, received three months’ imprisonment with hard labor. Richard Stringer was fined ss. G. S. Palmer, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 40s and cab-hire. Richard Taylor was fined 20s. H. Gibson was fined 10s. J. C. Allen, for being drunk and using obscene languge in a public place, was fined 20s. John Lane was fined 20s. James Alexander and H. Duffy were charged with being drunk. Alexander denied the charge, but additional evidence was called lo prove the offence ; fined 5s and 30s respectively. Cattle at Large. —For allowing cattle to wander at large the following persons were fined 5s each G. Mapstone, R. Pasche, P. Howard, J. Dollan, J. Nisbet. Miscellaneous. —For not being in control of his horse and cart, —Wilson was finad 10s ; for allowing his chimney to get on fire, James Hyslop was fined 5s ; W. Jane, for not having sufficient light burning on a scaffolding, was fined 10s; for entering a railway carriage while in motion, J. Me Gin was finad 10s ; for being the owner of an unregistered dog, J. Grieve was fined 20s ; for using obscene language in the public street, Henry Rosser was fined 20s. Murder. —Carl Kedhe and Eliza Lynch were brought up on this charge. Inspector Feast said that he had arrested the accused on the charge of murdering Henry Powell. He had seen deceased the previous night at the hospital, and as the inquest would be held at 2 p.m. that day, ho would ask for a remand until the 25th instant. His Worship granted the remand as asked. Failing to Support.—W. Stephenson was ordered to pay 10s per week towards the support of his illegitimate child. E. Trenwith was ordered to pay 7s 6d per week towards the support of his son at the Industrial School. LYTTELTON. Monday, July 23. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness. —Harry Simmons, arrested by Constable Devine, was fined 10s, or, in default, forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. Committing a Breach of the Peace in the Presence of a Constable. —John Harry and D. Bury, arrested by Constable Devine, were accused of this offence. The charge against Harry was dismissed and Bury was fined2os.
