CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, July 19. (Before Gr. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly.— Arthur Alexander was fined 60s, and Michael Hennessy ICs. Disobeying an Order. — A case against J. Vavasour for neglecting to comply with an order of the Rangiora Court to contribute towards the support of his son at the Naval Training School, was called on. In reply to the Bench, defendant said he was not in a position to pay the arrears due. He had been sick for five years, and was unable to work. If he were not believed, a doctor might be called in, or he was prepared to make a statement on oath. His Worship said he would adjourn the case for a week, and in the meantime confer with the Magistrate who made the order. LYTTELTON. Thursday, July 19. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Breach op the Marine Act. —John Lane, chief officer of the brig Emily, was charged, on the information of Captain McLellan, harbor master, with having shifted his vessel from Peacock’s Wharf into the stream without taking a pilot, he not being exempt from pilotage. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for the Harbor Board. The Bench inflicted a penalty of 305., and ordered him to pay the amount of pilotage £1 2s 4d, with costs 15s ; solicitor’s fee 21s.
