At the Licensing Court yesterday the application of Horace Ford for a license for a bouse at the Spit was refused. All other applications were granted, but several publicans were warned that if their premises were not put in better order their licenses would be cancelled. Fielding, June 6.

The 1.30 train from Foxton to Fielding ran into a siding at Reehter, Hanstead and Compares sawmills near Bunnythorpe. The engine collided with a truck. The engine and carriages all got oif the rails. Craig and his wife, and a man named Madden are all under remand charged with being concerned in the robbery, and one Alice Purnell, who is an important witness in the prosecution against the Craigs, is charged with having committed perjury in a case in which she claimed wages from the Craigs. She then swore that the signature to a receipt put in by the Craigs was not hers. The Craigs swear with equal pertinacity that Purnell signed the document. The Bench committed the woman for trial at the District Court and refused the application of her counsel to remit the case to the Supreme Court, saying they had no reason to suppose she would not get justice from an Oamaru jury. Purnell's trial takes place tomorrow, and the Craigs and Madden are to be brought up again on Friday. She maintains she never was able to write. The Harbor Board find themselves in a difficulty again regarding the dock. Proudfoot, after verbally promising to effect the alterations involved by the substitution of one dock for two, now intimates he did so without consulting his partner. The firm will charge shifting per cubic yard, which means an extra expenditure of £7666. The chairman of the works committee said to-day that the consequence of the way in which the Board was going on, woidd be to leave a deficiency of £56,000, and only get the harbor improvement scheme three-parts completed. The chances are that the Board, by a small majority, will adhere to the engineer's original plans. Napier, June 6.

About 300 people attended a meeting to consider the formation of a co-operative bakery. Ml' Sheehan was voted to the chair. A committee was formed to draw up a prospectus and to make preliminary arrangements. The meeting was unanimous. The proceedings in the Revision Court today will practically place, in a contested election, this electorate in the hands of Mr Sheehan.

While the up-train was proceeding from Kaikora to Waipnknrau tin's morning a bullock jumped off the embankment on to the trucks. The result was that the train was knocked off the line, and some injury to the line was done. The down-train due at 6.30 Ims not vet arrived.
