The Circassian insurgents have been defeated with great loss. INTERPROVINCIAL. Kaiapara, June 7. Arrived —The German barque Herman, from Lyttelton ; Aspasia, from Wellington, after a stormy passage of 28 days. The wreckage of the Feronia is all saved. Invekcargill, June 6. The first meeting of the Southland Coursing Club took place to-day at Morton Mains. The weather was splendid, and the attendance large. The hares were plentiful, and the sport very good. None of the stakes were settled; they will be run off to-morrow. Wellington, June 7. The Governor has remitted the sentence of two years' penal servitude passed last session on Richard Gordon, convicted of horsestealing at Wairarapa. The evidence on which lie was convicted is shown to have been unreliable. In the case Hooper v. the Reformer newspaper, for £75 damages for insufficient notice of dismissal as editor, Hooper was nonsuited. The case will probably be taken to the Supreme Court. Accident in Dunedin. [from our own cokrespondent.J Dl'nudin, June 7. The side wall of Kirkpatrick's drapery shop, Princess street, where excavation has been carried on, fell awav this afternoon. Two girls who were upstairs (the others being absent at lunch), were thrown out amongt the bricks, but fortunately they escaped without serious injury.
