The Governor has remitted the sentence of two years' penal servitude passed last session on Richard Gordon, convicted of horsestealing at Wairarapa. The evidence on which lie was convicted is shown to have been unreliable. In the case Hooper v. the Reformer newspaper, for £75 damages for insufficient notice of dismissal as editor, Hooper was nonsuited. The case will probably be taken to the Supreme Court. Accident in Dunedin. [from our own cokrespondent.J Dl'nudin, June 7. The side wall of Kirkpatrick's drapery shop, Princess street, where excavation has been carried on, fell awav this afternoon. Two girls who were upstairs (the others being absent at lunch), were thrown out amongt the bricks, but fortunately they escaped without serious injury.
