THE RAILWAY.
(To the Editor of the Globe) I Sir,—ln a sub-leader in the Press of this morning, I am represented as having made a charge of direct favouriteism, on the part of the Traffic Manager (Mr Lawson) in the matter of the loading of the steamer Wakatipu," and surprise is expressed that so serious a charge should have been allowed to pass unchallenged. I made no such charge, excepting in such limited sense, as, that Mr lawson, being the head of the department, may be technically said to do everything himself, and I, in common with every member of the Chamber of Commerce, can bear, and have borne testimony, to the uniform courtesy shown by Mr Lawson, and his constant endeavour to make the most of the limited appliances placed at his disposal. I take the earliest moment of asking you place this statement before the public, and will reply more fully to the Press so soon as the needed information as to trucks can be forwarded from Lyttelton. Yours, &c, C. W. TURNER, Christohurch, June 4th.
