[by submarine cable, ter press agency.] Reported Re-capture of Ardahan. London, May 28. It is reported that Ardahan has been recaptured [by the Turks]. The Danube lias overflowed its banks. The Greek Ministry have resigned. INTEEPEOVINCIAL. [rER PRESS agency.] Auckland, May 30. The Hon. Mr Whitaker lias informed the Eden County Council that the Government has no funds for the payment of preliminary expenses prior to the hanging-up of the Act, and that the Councillors became personally liable to the Bank. Mr Whitaker advised application to the Treasury, and said the Government were anxious to pay subsidies as soon as the necessary returns were made up. The Good Templars aro preparing a petition against the opening of public-houses on Sundays. The Customs authorities have ordered an official inquiry before the Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday as to the wreck of the Feronia. Greymouth, May 30. James McDougall, a ganger employed on the protective -works, while crossing the contractor's bridge at the mouth of the lagoon, which is unplanked, fell between the sleepers and was drowned. The criminal calendar for the next Supreme Court sitting will be very heavy. A large number of cases are down for trial. Several important civil cases will also be heard. Bad weather has again set in, and heavy rain is falling.
