LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH.

Tuesday, May 15. A meeting of the Local Board of Health was held at 11.30. Present—Messrs Hobbs (chairman), Koss, Harmun, Duncan, and Tailored. REI'OHT OF SAXITAKY COMMITTEE. The Chairman reported that the sanitary committee of the Board had met the sanitary committee of the City Council, and it had been decided to offer a premium for t lie best style of closet pan. It was for the Board to confirm the action of the committee. It was resolved to confirm the action taken by the committee. INSJ'F.CTOIt'S REPORT. The report of the Inspector of Nuisances was read and considered. It stated that the nuisance complained of by Mr Trcadwell arose from the drainage of the houses, and was not so much as had been made of it. The Chairman said that the nuisance arose from Air Treadwell's own fault. He had objected to the City Council making the drain, and had taken the matter into his own hands, and the result had been the nuisance complained of. It. was resolved that] the matter be referred to the City Council. Respecting Mr Hancock's case, the Board resolved to recpiest the magistrate not to press the clauses of the Act, provided Mr Hancock uudertook to provide a remedy to the satisfaction of the Board. The Inspector further reported that ho had made a house to house inspection and found the premises generally in pood order. ANOTHER CANDLE FACTORY. A petition was read from lifty-eight residents of Addington, calling attention to the nuisance arising from Mr King's soap and candle factory in Selwyn street, and requesting that the Board call upon Mr King to remove the nuisance. It was resolved that the medical officer of Health be reqursted to visit the premises and report. IMPJiOYED CLOSET PANS. The report of the Sanitary Committee as to (he improved form of closet pan, and recommending the Hoard to advertise a premium for competitive samples, was adopted. ACCOUNTS. Several accounts were passed and ordered to be paid. rNI'ECTIOUS DISEASES. Reports were received of seven cases of infectious diseases, viz., two of typhoid, two of scarlet fever, one of scarletina, and two of diphtheria. ADJOURNMENT.
