BOARD OF EDUCATION.
Wednesday, April 25. A meeting of the Board, was held at 3 p.m. Present —Mr John Inglis (ehaivinan), Hon. E. W. Stafford, Messrs Eolleston, Duncan, J, Tosswill, H. J. Tanercd, W. Montgomery. NORMAL SCHOOL. Tenders were opened for the erection of sheds for drilling at the Normal School, and that of Mr T. J. Gee accepted. I WOO DEN I). i The erection of an additional classroom, at a cost of £195, was sanctioned by the Board. MOUNT SOM KUS. Mr Walker was returning oflleer and chairman at a meeting of householders to he held at 4 p.m. on Monday next, for the election of a committee. ; OTAIO. j The Board resolved to proclaim as an educational district that portion of the district lying between the Rivers Otaio and Makikihi. It was resolved that a meeting of householders should be held on Monday fortnight, to elect a committee, Mr John Martin to preside thereat. TAI TATU. Owing to the difficulty in obtaining a title under the Land Transfer Act to the additional site of the school, it was resolved, under advice of the solicitor, to abandon the purchase. SOUTH ASHBURTON. A letter was read from the chairman of the school committee, stating that, as the date appointed for the meeting had been found to be inconvenient, he had altered it. The committee had also elected eight committeemen instead of six. The Chairman pointed out that both courses taken by the committee were illegal. It was decided t hat the election be declared null and void, and that a fresh meeting be called for Monday week, Mr Chaplin to be the chairman. WAKANUI. A letter was read from Mr J. S. Bruce, asking the interference of the Board of Education to prevent Mr Brown, the chairman of the committee, carrying on the business of the school in defiance of the wishes of the rest of the school committee. The Chairman stated that the Board had sanctioned the election of Mr J. E. Buchanan as chairman in place of Mr Brown, owing »o the letters received from the members of the committee. OUST. A letter was read from this committee asking that a master of higher attainments should be allotted to them, considering the size of their school. It was decided to allow the matter to stand over for the present. IiESIGNATION. A letter was read from Mr A. C. Knight, pointing out that his seat at the Board had long been vacant from non-attendance, and requesting that the vacancy should be noted in the usual way, inspector's reports. The reports of Mr Rested on various schools visited by him were laid on tbe table. DA VS OP MEETING. Mr Montgomery moved —“That t lie minute of December (itli, as to the Board meeting on flu’ first "Wednesday in each month be rescinded.” Mr Tosswill seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Mr Montgomery then moved —“That the first and third Wednesdays of the month be (he regular days of meeting ol the Board in fill lire.” Mr J osswill seconded the motion, which wa.- carried. The Board proceeded to consider new regulations, and afterwards adjourned.
