Taranaki arrived at 6.20 this morning from Northern ports with inward San Francisco mail. She sailed South at noon to-day. The Tararua took in about 120 tons of cargo and sailed for Melbourne, via West Coast, at 6 p.m. last night. The schooner Advance was berthed at the Breastwork to discharge her timber yesterday. The ship Margaret Galbraith will' be berthed at the Gladstone Pier to discharge on Thursday next. The Clematis, when her discharge is completed, loads grain for Adelaide. The Herman, barque, was berthed at the Tunnel Wharf yesterdav to discharge. The Malay was shifted to the No. 3 Wharf yesterday, in"order that she might load from the narrow guage trucks. The Richard and Mary will be berthed at the Breastwork to discharge her timber. The schooner Richard and Mary loft Waitapu at midnight on the 14th instant, with a W. breeze, which held till making Stephen's Island followingday : thence to Cape Campbell, which was passed on Monday at 0 p.m.; variable winds wore experienced. A strong S.E. gale then followed, obliging the vessel to run into Port Underwood for shelter, where she arrived on Tuesday at 3 p.m. Lay there for twelve hours, getting underweigh on Wednesday, ran out into the Straits, but found the weather too rough, and so put back into Port Underwood, where she arrived at noon on Wednesday ; lay there till 4 p.m. on Friday, when she got underweigh, experiencing light and variable winds till arrival, the Kaikouras being passed on Sunday morning, and the vessel arriving in harbor at 4 a.m. yesterday. The schooner Advance, Captain Dempsey, left Poverty Bav on thf 7th instant at 3 p.m., with a strong N.W. wind, which held till ton miles south of Boar Island morning. A S.S.E. gale then tollowed. the vcs. : I putting back to Cape Kidnapper for shelter. Anchored there, but finding tho vessel was dragging her anchor, got underweigh and ran for Wangiwie Roads, where she arrived at 7 p.m. on the 9th instant. Lay there for twenty-four hours, and left on the 10th instant and ran back to Poverty Bay for repairs, arriving same night. Left on the 12th instant, experiencing light N.W. winds to re-making Bear Island next clay, where the wind freshened into a gale, lasting till off Castle Point on tho 17th instant, when it veered round to the S.W., and blew a strong gale for twenty-four hours. Thence to arrival light E. winds and thick weather was experienced, Cape Palliser being passed at S p.m. on Saturday last, and Kaikouras following Sunday at noon, the vessel arriving at midnight on the 22nd instant. A preliminary Inquiry into the wreck of tho barque Isabella Ridley Avas hold to-day before Mr C. E. Cooper, Collector of Customs, and Mr H. Cain, Nautical Assessor. The Harbormaster, in his evidence, said that bo noticed the vessel's cables were much worn. They were good enough for ordinary work, but not for an open roadstead. He did not think that it was possible for the vessel to got out to sea under sail. Kenneth McKinnon, the captain of the vessel, said that only one cable was down when the tirst parting took place. After this cable broke he put down another, and while he was getting ready a third anchor and cable the second one' parted. He hoisted sail, but the wind was not heavy enough to carry the vessel off.
