NORTH OTAGO TURF CLUB.

THE DISQUALIFICATION OF FISHHOOK SUSTAINED. [Per Pbess AGE>'cr.] OAMAKf, April 16. A meeting of the Committee of the North Otago Turf Club took place to-night at the Empire Hotel to consider the Fishhook case. After some discussion it was resolved that the decision of the Stewards re h ishhook be adhered to. It was also resolved I hat the committee after enquiry into the matter are of opinion that Derritt, Fishhook s jockey, was at least equally to blame with the owner, and should share in the punishment, and accordingly resolve that he be disqualified to ride on the Oamaru course during the pleasure of the club." It was further resolved " That the secretary write to the secretaries of the Dunedin, Christchurch, and Timaru Jockey Clubs informing them that at the meeting held in the stewards' room at the course, after the race, all the stewards, with the exception of Mr McMaster, being present, it was the unanimous testimony of the judge and stewards that Fishhook had been deliberately pulled, and the meeting then proceeded to consider how the offence should be punished. It was, after discussion, held that it would be useless to examine the jockey and owner with a view of deciding which was in fault, as each would naturally shift the blame on the other. The meeting took into consideration the advisability of disqualifying both parties, but eventually resolved' that the disqualification _of the horse would be sufficient punishment, and they disqualified the horse accordingly. Subsequently, at the request of O'Brien, the committee of the club gave him an opportunity of making a statement, winch is herewith enclosed, but the committee being of opinion that there is nothing in the said statement to justify them in reversing the action of the stewards as regards the disqualification of Fishhook, resolved that their action be sustained: but being further of opinion that Derritt, Fishhook's jockey, was at least equally to blame with the owner and should share in the punishment, accordingly resolved that he be disqualified to ride on the Oamaru course during the pleasure of the club, IMPORTED RACING STOCK.
