Charles Hillsdcn, custodian for the Theatre Company, and business manager for the lessees, has brought a criminal action for libel against a person named Powell, formerly connected with the Theatre, for having written an anonymous letter to one of the Public Hall directors, in which he insinuated that the directors of the company and lessees of the Theatre were being defrauded by Hillsdcn. The case was heard before the Resident Magistrate, and Powell, who reserved his defence, was committed to take his trial at the next criminal sittings of the Supreme Court. AUSTRALIAN. WRECK OE THE SCHOONER S. M. RATS ON. Sydney - , April 10. The schooner S. M. Ratson, from .Newcastle to San Francisco, sprung a leak off Cape Howe, and bore up for Howe’s Island, where she beached.
