HEATHCOTE REGATTA.

This event came off yesterday at the Heathcote, and in all respects, except attendance, it was a great success. We append me results of the various races : Junior Fours, under 21; distance, 2 miles; entrance, £l. Prize, Mr Hobday’s Cup and £lO Tamesis, O.R.C.—(A. Lean, lOst, bow; J. K. Lanauze, lOstSlb, 2; J. 0. Martin, lOst 41b, 3 ; A. A. Kooks, lOst 21b, stroke ; C Dixon. sst, cox) 1 Heathcote, H.R.U. (f. Raiuey, 9st 11b, bow ; J. Rule. lOst 101 b, 2 ; R. Day, lOst Bib, 3 ; R. Nankivell, list 21b, stroke ; W, Evans, Git, cox) 2 Mr Pavitt dismissed both boats to a very even start, the tide running very strong. The Heathcote boys went away with the lead, being about a boat’s length in advance for the first half -mile. Fooka then called on his men, and they came with a rush, getting on even terms, and afterwards securing half a length lead. From this the race was never in doubt, the O.R.C. crew having it all their own way, and although the Heathcote boys pulled pluckily, it was not their day out, and the Tamesis came in a winner by any number of lengths. Senior Fours ; distance, 2 miles ; entrance, £l. Prize, Mr Gapes’ (Mayor of Christ* church) Cup and £ls Tamesis, O.R.C.—(T. Taylor, lOst lllb, bow; T. Grierson, list, 2; L. Ollivier, 12st, 3; J. O. Jones, list 41b, stroke ; C. Mann, oat, cox) 1 Heathcote, Kaiapoi R. and S. Club—(Mellor, lOst, bow; R Day, lOst 21b, 2: Perrin, 12st 4!b, 3; G. Wright, lOst 41b, stroke; E. stroke; F. Weston, 4st, cox) 0 A very good start was effected, the Heathcote getting away the quickest, with the Tamesis next, and Cam last. This order was preserved until off the point, when Jones’s crew began to draw up to the Kaiapoi boat. In turning in to the flag at the top the cox of the Heathcote took a long sheer right out of his course, which gave the Tamesis a chance of getting the lead. The Kaiapoi boat on finding their mistake headed across, and a foul seemed imminent. Howover, it did not take place, only a slight /raze of the rudder. The two were now on t .ven terms, the Cam being out of the race. A splendid set to then took place down the straight run in, both boats doing their beat. After one of the best contested races on the stuary, Jones’ crew managed to forge ihcad and secure a slight lead, which they increased almost on the post to about half a ?ard, amidst great cheering. The Cam cams in a bad third.

At the start Kaiapoi was quickest away, the Sylph second, Cam third, and Kiwi fourth. After almost a hundred yards had been gone in this order, the 0.R.0, boat got on level terms with the Sylph, and ultimately took second place. At. the mile peg the Canterbury boys put on a spurt and collared the Kaiapoi boat, getting on even terras with her, and ultimately getting the lead which she held. The Heathcote boat came up and passed the Sylph, the Cure holding second place. Ultimately the C.R.O. boat won easily, the rest a long way astern. Senior Pairs ; distance, ! The Weka got the best of the start, and held the lead for a time when the Tui came up and assumed command of affairs, ultimately drawing away, so that it was a moral for her to win. A plucky race for second place ensued between the H.R. 0. boat and the Moa, ultimately resulting in the latter winning by half a length. The Cure Club crew (holders of the cups) were entered but did not start for the event. Sailing Race—First prize, £B.
