MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Fbiday, March 9.
[Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M, G. L. Lee, and M. Studholme, Esqs, LP's.) Lunacy from Drtnk.—Charles Craythorn, who was suffering from the effects of drink, was remanded to Lyttelton for medical treatment. An inebriate, who appeared for the lirst time, was fined 5s and cab hire.
Assault.—Samuel Paul was charged on summons with assaulting a boy named Henry J. Scherwerson. From the evidence it appeared that two young boys, belonging to the different families who live at Avonside, had disagreed, and after one of these rows defendant threw some water on complainant, and in the latter's struggles some buttons came off his clothes. His Worship told defendant he had no right to take the law into his own hands. He would be ordered to pay the costs of the case.
Protection Orders. —An order, protecting her earnings, was granted to Ma;y A. Brighting against her husband, Stephen Saul Brighting, on the grounds of drunkenness and illusuage. Complainant was also given the custody of four of her children, and defendant was ordered to pay £2 per week towards their support. A similar application by Rebecca Hamman was adjourned for the police to make inquiries, as neither of the parties appeared. Transfer of Licenses. Temporary transfers of the Provincial Larder lirense from Honora Agnes Quill to Christian Klingenstene, and of Barrett's hotel license from Wilhelm Schmidt to Edward Cookaon, were granted. Slaughter-house Licenses. —The following applications for licenses to slaughter were granted:—H. P. Murray Aynsley, Mount Hutt Station ; S. Dixon, section 221, Spreydon district; George Dry den, section 1150, Heathcote district ; James Gammack, section 3053, Springston ; Gaisford and Edmonds, sections 139 and 275, Eiccarton district; James Jackson, section 323, Harewood road ; H. B. Lane, Lincoln road ; E. M. Mein, section 156, Eiccarton; A. Philpott, section 324, St Albans ; E. J. Pepperill, section 15, Heathcote district; James Jones, section 7551, Templeton.
LYTTELTON, Thursday, March 8. (Before W. Donald, Esq., E.M.) Drunkenness. James Lomsden and John Loader were fined 10s, or, in default, forty-eight hours' imprisonment, each, with hard labour.
