(Pc'r Press Agency.) Hokitika, February 19. The colonial pv;ze firing commenced at 6 a.m. The first was the Carbine Match, 400 and 500 yards. The highest scorers are—--400 500 Total Littlewood, Tauranga ... 28 25 53 Svkep, Thames 24 24 48 McLean, Waiuku ... 25 21 46 Gummings, Wanganui... 26 17 43 Hill, Canterbury ... 22 20 42 Hellers 21 20 41 Fox, Canterbury ... 20 20 40 Muir, Dunedin Artillery 25 15 40 Rutherford, Waikato ... 18 21 39 Peake, Dunedin 21 18 39 The first match—Volunteers armed with Snider Bifies—commenced at 10 a.m. The first two ranges are just finished. The highest scores are— Paynter, Nelson 53 Partington, Auckland 51 Keefe, Tauranga ... ... 60 Campbell, A.C 48 Harnicg, Oamaru 48 Ferric, Christchurch 48 8 p.m. The first rifle match was finished at one o'clock, in one hour less time than last year, and there were eleven more men. The scores were— Bichardson 70 Partington 69 Paynter 69 Sergt King 68 Beefe 67 Clark 66 Harding 66 Willocks 65 After dinner the second carbine match came off—Hill. 34 ; Cummins, 43 ; Broughton, 33 ; and Kettle fourth place, with a Hcore of 32. After firing off a tie with Sykes, Stevens, Bell, and Littlewood, the second rifle match was then taken, the result being the hottest shooting ever made at the colonial meetings—Partington (Auckland), 37; Stonebridge, Parker, Keefe, Turner, Ross, Mcintosh, King, 36 each. In firing tieß Stonebridge made five bulls-eyes, and Parker four bulls-eyes one centre. The others were placed as named. The weather is fine. Hokitika, February 20. Heavy rain fell last night. There was no firing until after breakfast, when the third Carbine Match came off. Kettle, Dunedin, 33 ; McLean, Auckland, 31 ; Strange, C'kristehivrch, 30; Kissel, Nelson, 30. In the second Rifle Match, yesterday, at 200 yards, with S-inch bulls eye, fifty-one men out of the fifty-four bring made an average of ov6r centres. Not only are the winning scores much higher this year than last, but the general average is far superior to any former shooting. The third Rifle match is finished. Parker, 32; Keefe, 32 ; Willocks, 32 ; Armstrong, 32 ; Stonebridge, 31 ; Paynter, 31; A. Sutton, 31; Acheson, 31. The weather is now fine.
