Thursday, February 15. (Before G. L. Hellish, Esq, E.M.)

Miscellaneous. —For setting fire to some garden rubbish on the South town belt, without having given the required notice, Manley Smith was fined 10s. A case against Wm Kent for obstructing a footpath with a ladder was dismissed. James Campbell, for not having sufficient control over his horse, was fined 10s. A case against George Mapleson for obstructing Oxford terrace by allowing a house in course of removal to remain thereon, was dismissed, as it was shown to have been the result of an accident. Michael Hamilton and Samuel Thomas,, charged with not being in attendance on their horse and cab, were each fined 10s. Edward De Jersey, summoned for hire-plying without a license, was fined 10s. Christopher Dalwood, charged with having driven two horses in a Sumner bus on 3rd February, each having sores on the shoulder, and bleeding from being rubbed by the collar, was fined 20s. Annie Osbourne, charged with having used obscene language in a house at Colombo street south, was fined 20s. F. Eaphl, summoned for ringing the firebell on 28fch January, was fined 20s. It was shown that smoke had been seen issuing from a gorse fence, and it was believed to be on fire.

Drunkenness. —Kobert Hyslop, for this offence, was fined 10s. Conspiring to Defraud. —The remanded case against Agnes Brown and Ellen Stokes was called on. Inspector Feast asked for a remand on the ground that the third person implicated had not been yet arrested, and ho was not prepared to go on with the case. Mr Joynt, who appeared for defendants, protested against his clients being held before the Court on this charge. Ultimately, at counsel’s request, his Worship instructed the police that they must be prepared to go on with the case on Monday next.

Larcenies. —James Hamer, arrested for the laceuy of a cash-box from the Clarendon Hotel, was remanded until Friday; and W. Stacey, fqr stealing a coat, was remanded until Monday. Horses and Cattle at Large.— For permitting horses and cattle to wander the following persons were each fined 5s :—George Dunckn', Andrew McDonald, Robert Beattie, James Rosser, S. Taylor.
