ROAD BOARDS.
HEATHCOTE. The Board met at 10.80 a.m, on Thursday last. Present—Messrs Manning (chairman), F, Jones, P. Kerr, W. Attwood, and W. Langdown. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The clerk reported having received the following amounts up to January 31st, viz—on account general rates, £l9l I9s 6d ; Waimakariri rates, £l3 10s lOd ; deposits on account contracts, £29 ; and on account formation of St Martin’s road, £56 ss. Correspondence was read from Mr W. B. Munday, respecting side channel in Colombo road between Mrs Mann’s store and the railway gates. The clerk was instructed to forward copy of this letter to the Spreydon Boad Board, as they have hitherto taken charge of this road, but for the future it was decided that this Board will arrange to attend to the footpath and side channel on the east side of Colombo road. From residents on East town belt re formation of roadway and footpath on east side of belt, between Hereford and Gloucester streets, Consideration of same deferred to next Board meeting, and in meantime further information to bo obtained, and the city surveyor seen on the subject. From Mr B. Garland, re widening Heathcote Biver road, near his residence. To be informed that the Board is willing to carry out the work, on condition that the residents undertake to pay one-third the cost of same From Mr John Pearce, requesting permission to cut flax on banks of the Biver Heathcote geply deferred till next meeting. From the
chairman of Port Victona Road Board, with copy of letter from Government Engineer, respecting repairs to said road, Resolved that tenders be called for keeping Dyer’s Pass road in repair for a period of twelve months, from the foot of the hills on this side to the saddle. From the clerk to the Selwyn County Council, asking for returns showing the total amount of rateable property in the Heath cote Road Board district for the year ending 31st March, 1876. and also the amount of general rates received during said year. The information required has been supplied to the County Council and also to the Colonial Treasurer. Prom Mr Peel, rc bridging the river Heathcote, near Christchurch Quay. Considerstion deferred for further information. Mr Edward Jones, of Waltham, had an interview with the Board respecting the formation of Barbadoes street south and Madras street south in Russell’s paddock. The matter was deferred to next meeting of the Board, and, in the meantime, Mr Edward Jones undertook to consult the residents respecting the special rate required to enable the Board to take the work in hand. Mr A. M. Ollivier also had an interview respecting a culvert on the Hill’s road, near Skill!corn’s house. Resolved, that a committee of the Board examine the site in question, with power to act. Jte M'Hutchinson’s road and M‘Gregor’s road —Consideration of |the work to be done to these roads was deferred to the next meeting. The clerk was instructed to write to the chairman of the County Council, re culverts on the Hills main road ; also to write to the Government Engineer in charge of the works on the Sumner road, respecting the unsatisfactory manner in which the contract is being carried out; also, to write to Mr Horler, Christchurch Quay, and inform him that the Board have resolved to form the River Heathcote road from Christchurch Quay to Opawa, and, therefore, give him notice to remove such portions of his buildings as encroach on the said road. Various accounts, to the amount of £llO lls 9d. were passed for payment, A specification of the duties of the clerk to the Board was read over and approved, and duplicate copies signed by the chairman and clerk. The clerk’s bond was signed by himself and two sureties. The Board adjourned to Thursday, the 15th instant.
