SPORTING.
WELLINGTON RACES. ( Per Press Agency. ) Wellington, February 9. There were eever.al heavy showers during the night, but the strong S.B, breeze that was blowing all the morning got the ground in fair condition. The attendance at 12.30 was only moderate. The first race was the Hurdle race of 50 bovs, two miles, over seven flights of hurdles. Six came to the scratch,. A capital race ensued, all jumping well until the fifth hurdle, when Blue Jacket fell, but with noinjury to horse or rider, St Albans gob away, bat co niug up th j straight; Tommy Dodd closed up all the distance, both plying whip aud spur, but St Albans managed to win by a bare neck. Coming home, Whalebone threw his rider, who seemed hurt.
The following are the acceptances for the Flying Handicap :—Guy Fawkes, 9sfc 101 b ; Templeton, 9sfc 4lb; Fallacy, 7st Sib ; Morning star, 7st 31b ; Songster, 7st 61b ; Gleajnark, 7st j Lady of the Lake, 6st 91b.
