MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, January 31. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly.—John Sullivan, charged with being drunk and resisting the police, was fined 20s. An inebriate, who appeared for the first time, was fined ss. Conspiring to Defraud.--Ellen Stokes, a woman of respectable appearanca, was charged on warrant with having conspired, with two other women, to defraud Mr Berry Cass, draper, by obtaining goods from him. Inspector Feast told his Worship that there was a third person still to be arrested. Accused had been identified as the person who had received the goods, !and he would atk for a remand until the 7th February. Remand granted as asked. LYTTELTON. Wednesday, January 31. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M] Drunkenness. William Lofthouse, arrested by Constable Devine, was fined 10s for this offence. Illegally on Premises.—John Inglis and Thomas Maule, arrested by Constable Devine, were charged with the above offence, and dismissed with, a caution. Larceny of Fruit.—Two boys were brought up and charged with the above offence. The Bench discharged them after having given them a severe caution, and remarking that all boya convicted of this offence would in future be severely dealt with.
