THE GENERAL SYNOD.
[By Telegraph.] {Per Press Agency.') Nelson, January 29. The General Synod met this afternoon. After a long discussion as to the accuracy of the minutes, Archdeacon Stock moved, Mr Rous Martin seconded—“ That there should be three secretaries of the Synod, the additional one to take charge of the work done by the Synod in committee, in consequence of errors in the committee minutes of last session through having no secretary.” After discussion, the motion was negatived. Rev E. Williams moved that, after the ninth day of the session, no fresh notices of motion be received. Archdeacon Maunsell seconded the motion, which was supported by Mr Lusk and opposed by the Bishop of Dunedin. Ultimately the motion was negatived. Archdeacon Maunsell then moved that a committee be appointed to enlarge and improve the New Zealand Hymnal, the committee to consist of the Bishops of Auckland and Nelson, Archdeacons Williams and Stock, Revs B. Dudley, Brown, and the mover. At this point the debate was interrupted by the hour of adjournment, considerable time having been occupied in discussing the minutes of last meeting. The debate will be resumed this evening, and is expected to be a warm one.
