MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, January 19. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly. —Win Hutton, arrested for drunkenness, and who was still suffering from the effects of drink, was remanded to Lyttelton for eight days for medical treatment. John Brown was fined 10s. Annie Osborne was discharged with a caution. Drunk and Assaulting the Police.— John Datson, arrested for being drunk, and also charged with resisting the police and assaulting a man who went to the assistance of the constable, was fined 20s and os expense of witness. Disobeying an Order.— The adjourned case was called on against Henry Siierwill for failing to comply with an order of the Court to contribute towards the support of his wife and family at Dunedin. Defendant said he was prepared to pay the arrears, and submitted a letter lie had received from Dunedin since last before the Court, informing him of the life his wife is at present leading there. His Worship told him that if lie could give the police any clue by which they could obtain reliable information, he might then make application to have the order cancelled. Defendant promised to write a letter to the inspector of police, giving particulars to enable inquiries to be made in Dunedin ; and as he now paid the arrears due, his Worship dismissed the charge against him. LYTTELTON. Friday, January 19. [Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness. —John Inglis, arrested by Constable Mclntosh, charged with this offence, was fined 20s, or in default forty - eight hours. Refusal of Duty.— George Kiugsbey, Patrick Sullivan, Jerry Sullivan, and John Binney were charged with this offence, and remanded until to-morrow.
