THE FLOODS AT TIMARU

By Eleotbic Telegraph. J Timarxt, January 18. The damage to the Point Railway exceeds what was at first reported. There is a large extent of the line washed away and the repairs cannot be effected before about six weeks. The cost of the repairs is estimated at over £IOOO. The line was repaired between the Eangitata and Timaxu by this morning, to allow the traffic to be resumed. All the railway bridges are uninjured, but the Opihi road bridge has been nearly destroyed. Up to half-past eight this evening no mail had reached here from Christchurch. Charles Briant, formerly scavenger for the Timaiu Municipality, fell down dead at the Washdyke yesterday. The verdict of the jury to-day was that death was caused by epilepsy.
