WRECK OF THE S.S. OTAGO.
Intelligence reached town to-day, by telegram from Dunedin, that Messrs McMeckan and Co’s s.s. Otago, Captain Calder, had been wrecked on the passage from Dunedin to the Bluff. Th® Otago left Lyttelton on Saturday evening for Melbourne and Hobart Town, via Dunedin and Bluff, and was wrecked on the evening of Monday, or early this morning, at Chasland’s Mistake, a headland situated half-way between Dunedin and Bluff. As will be seen, all the passengers and crew were saved, but the vessel herself is a total wreck. The following is the latest telegram received on the subject:— “Dunedin, Dec, 5, 2.30 p.m. “The following is the information re wreck of Otago, sent from Captain Calder to the Bluff agents of the steamer:— ‘ Edendale, 4th December —Otago ashore at Chasland’s Mistake; crew and passengers all saved.
