MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHUECH. Saturday, November 4. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M., and Percy Cox, Esq, J.P.] Drunk and Disorderly. —Daniel Pasche. charged with being drunk and using obscene language within the hearing of passers-by in Tuam street, was fined 20s. An inebriate, who appeared for the first time, was fined ss. Charles Brown, arrested at Lincoln for drunkenness, was fined 20s. Vagrancy.—John Williams, a colored man, who had been remanded the previous day for medical examination, was again brought up. In the opinion of the provincial surgeon accused was in a sound state of mind. In reply to the Bench, as to why he did not look for work, accused said that his ankle had been bad for some time, and he " couldn't tramp good." He would like to have one more chance, when he would go up to the Tomahawk and try aud obtain employment. His Worship gave the man the chance asked for, but cautioned him that if he was caught loafing about again he would be imprisoned for a long term. Dlsobeyjng an Order.—Edward Spray answered to his bail on the charge of disobej ing an order of the Court for the payment of 30s weekly towards the support of his wife and family. Accused appeared in Court in a state of intoxication, and was ordered to bo locked up for forty-eight hours for contempt.
