AMUSEMENTS.
CANTERBURY MUSIC HALL. “life in the Backwoods” and “The Rose of Auvergne,” constituted the programme at the above hall last evening. The former piece went considerably better than on its first production, and was thoroughly appreciated by the audience, who were very demonstrative in their applause. “The Rose of Auvergne ” also went capitally, and the various singers were enthusiastically greeted. To-night and to-morrow “Rob Roy ” will be performed, and on Monday evening “ Transported for Life” will be reproduced for the benefit of Mr DarrelL MR J. K, EMMET. The agent in advance of this gentleman, Mr Richmond Thatcher, arrived from Dunedin yesterday by the Taupo to make arrangements for bis appearance here. Mr Emmet’s speciality is Dutch business, in which he has been extraordinarily successful in Melbourne and Sydney, drawing crowded bouses during the continuance of a lengthened engagement. Mr Thatcher has concluded an engagement for the appearance of Mr Emmet at the new Theatre, so Christchurch playgoers will be enabled to judge for themselves very shortly. The entertainment is entirely new in the New Zealand colonies, and should therefore prove very attractive. Mr Emmet opens at Dunedin first, and will appear here about Boxing night.
