AMUSEMENTS.
CANTERBURY MUSIC HALL, “ Transported for Life” was again repeated at the above Hall last evening, and was successfully enacted throughout. The place was crowded, and the performers came in for a large share of applause—the sensational shaft and ocean scenes being the signal for enthusiastic and prolonged cheering. Miss Jennie Nye also received a cordial encore for her clever and artistic Irish jig dancing in the diggings scene. The other characters were as ably pourtrayed as hitherto. The same programme will be submitted to-night. SIMON BEN’S OPERA COMPANY The performance last evening for the benefit of the orchestra was well attended, though hardly so fully as the services of the orchestra during the season and the splendid programme put forward demanded. The company play for the last time to-night, and, by special request, “La Pille de Madame Angot” will be played instead of “ Figaro.” The performance will commence with a concert, during which Mr Simonsen will play Paganini’s celebrated “ Carnival of Venice, 1’ and afterwards address the audience; and the performance will conclude with Offenbach’s “La Fille de Madame Angot.”
