' CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, October *l6. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq, R.M., and Percy Cox, Esq., J.P.] Drunk and Disorderly. —Alexr. Johnston, from being drunk and misconducting himself in a railway carriage, was fined 10s. H. F. Allen was discharged with a caution. John Purcell was fined 10s. Two inebriates, who appeared for the first time, were each fined ss. soliciting Prostitution. —Ellen Talbot, charged with this offence, was fined 40s. Larceny of a Coat. —Edwin Turner was called to answer to his bail, on the charge of having stolen a coat, the property of Mr Cowell. The accused did not appear when called. Inspector Feast told the Bench that he believed accused had left the province in female attire fon Monday last. Turner had left £2O in his (the inspector’s) hands. His Worship ordered that the money should be held in the meantime. Deserting his Children. —A summons case against George Long, for deserting his children, was further adjourned for a week, to give the defendant an opportunity of making arrangements for the support of his children which would be satisfactory to the Bench. Assault. —The adjourned charge against Neill Cunningham for assaulting his wife was called on. The evidence of two wit nesses, called by the defendant, disproved his statement that complainant was the worse for liquor on the day she was assaulted, and his Worship ordered defendant to find two sureties in £lO each, and himself ’n a similar amount, to keep the peace towards his wife for six months ; or, in default, one month’s imprisonment.
