HEATHCOTE ROAD BOARD.
This Board met on Thursday, the 14th inst. Present—Messrs S. Manning (chairman), Clephane, and Attwood. After the minutes were read and confirmed, the clerk reported having received £96 9s 9d in rates; that Mr Allison, the poundkeeper, had sent in a return showing that eighteen cows and three horses had been impounded by the Board off the footpaths and streets in the district during the last fortnight, which would have a salutary effect if followed up. Letters were read from Mr Hopkins re removal of verandah, asking the same be allowed to remain, as the posts are not considered to be an obstruction to the foot, pat a by persons living in the neighbourhood, and those using the walk generally, and rhat also he intended shortly to make improvements to his premises ; agreed that toe matter be postponed till the next, meeting of the Board. From a widow, asking to have her rates remitted, which the Board agreed to do. From Mr Sorton, complaining of a nuisance, also re filling up of Jackson’s creek, where stagnant water lie?. The first complaint to be attended to, and in reference to the latter it would have to be deferred unless be took steps on his own account to remedy it, Mr Moody attended requesting the Board to take measures to enforce a Mr McHarg to remove a stage for washing wool from the Bide of the river Heathcote, opposite his (Moody’s) premises, as he wanted to erect one himself, Mr McHarg having left the district, and was informed to make application to erect one in writing. From Mr Day, asking to be allowed to erect a hoarding during the carrying out of improvement to the Wharf Hotel; granted subject to the supervision of the foreman. From Mr D, McFarlane, re bad road, Christchurch east. The Board resolved to shingle twelve and ahalf chains of road and footpath in Worcester street east, and that the other part of road had to be formed by the ratepayers interested, after which the Board would take possession and keep it in repair. It was resolved that tenders be called for that work, and fresh tenders for forming continuation of Opawa road, and that Mr Partridge’s tender be acceoted for forming fifteen chains of Oowlishaw’s road, and the the pay-sheet for the labor gang, amounting to £4l 16s 6d, be passed, when the Board adjourned.
